Burley Village Cinema - AGM 2021
Chairman’s Report for period Jan – Dec 2020.
This time last year I began to think about the Chairman’s Report that I would be presenting at the forthcoming AGM to be held before our first screening on 3rd February 2020. For those of you that attended you may recall that I reflected upon the previous five very successful years since Burley Village Cinema was launched in 2015 and we looked forward to the exciting opportunities in 2020. Little did we know that within days of our second screening, we would all be plunged into a national lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid 19. No further screenings have therefore taken place since March.
As we approach the time when we should be holding this year’s AGM, we are in another lockdown and are therefore still unable to meet. Details of our finances and reports are therefore being circulated electronically so that you are kept informed.
As to the future – the rollout of a Covid vaccine gives the promise of a return to a form of ‘normality’ at some point, but the committee are agreed that we will not resume screenings until we are absolutely sure that it is safe to do so and that audience numbers will be sufficient to make it financially viable.
Many of you will be aware that my wife retires from ministry in March so we will be leaving Burley and returning to the house we still own in Devon. This will therefore be my last AGM and I will be stepping down as Chair of Burley Village Cinema. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their support and hard work. Thanks also to those who assist in setting up and clearing the venue each month and to those providing refreshments for our enjoyment.
Finally I would like to thank you, our audience, whose support going forward will continue to make this a successful village event. When we are able to reopen please spread the good news, tell people about the website - www.burleyvillagecinema.weebly.com, invite them along because undoubtedly the best publicity is personal recommendation.
Thank you and goodbye.
